JanieBarf Office Pool

Janie's feeling better, and she wants to go to Golden Corral for breakfast. (All you can eat buffet.)

She won't take no for an answer, so the question is, how soon after we start eating will she puke? Bonus points if you can guess how much barfage. (roughly)

I'm not sure what to hand out for a prize. Maybe we'll FedEx you a sample? Ok, one guest post to the winner. Same rules as last time. No f bomb, no porn.

(Janie says it's just wrong to start an office pool on when your lover's going to spew. I say if it's happening, it's fair game!!!!)

Fixed that for ya', Lover.-- jb

:P

45 minutes. In accordance with Murphy's Law, the vomit reaction never hits before you have a full oesophagus.

Off-topic: thanks for pointing out the live bookmark thing in a previous post. I cannot believe I didn't try this feature out before now.

Now, if only I could figure out why visiting the UDOJ frontpage temporarily locks firefox up...

WE HAVE A WINNER!

We got to the Corral right around 10. They were kinda busy, so we didn't get seated until about 10:30. Janie took her first bite at 10:37 by my watch.

We almost didn't make it home.

Time - 11:20. 43 minutes. Nice call, Lifewish. I warned her about the bacon, but NOOOOOOOOOO! Kids just don't listen.

If there's one thing a Marine knows about, it's puking bacon on a Saturday morning.

:)

Email your post whenever you're ready, Lifewish, I'll post it as soon as I can.

Kisses and congrats,

Kate

JanieBarf says she's not sure what's exactly up with that. It runs fine in Firefox on our laptop.

She thinks it's a javascript issue, though. The only thing that's really different about the home page from the other pages is the recent comments javascript code, so that's where you're having your problem.

You're not the only one, though, because Steve Story is also having issues with it. That's what started the whole email conversation between him and Janie.

"thanks for pointing out the live bookmark thing in a previous post. I cannot believe I didn't try this feature out before now."

Firefox rocks. What else can you say about it?

Kisses,
Kate

Holy cow. Normally if you predict that something will happen "in accordance with Murphy's Law", it does the opposite just to spite you...

Get Well Soon, Janie!

Regards slow load times: I'm pretty sure it's the Javascript. In particular, the wad of comments that get downloaded, and the processing required for each one. Might have a go at the code, see if I can streamline it a little.

Yes, unless what you expect it to do is what you don't expect it to do, in which case it does exactly what you expect, because you don't expect it.

It's funny that way.

Now get writing your post.

Thanks for the "get well" wishes. I'm actually feeling a little better again, now that my stomach is empty.

...but I'm hungry again. Another office pool, perhaps?

:)

Hey, I was bored enough and geeky enough to have a go at streamlining the Farrago blogger hack. I now have something that I think should be faster by a non-trivial amount, but neither of my blogs have enough comments on to be able to tell :(

I at least am fairly sure it's not actually going to break stuff. Would you be at all interested in test-driving it for me?

(A response of "no, go make your own blog popular" is perfectly acceptable here :P)

Sure, email it along, and we'll test it here, too.

I miss breakfast at the chow hall. My favorite meal for sure. Usually on the weekends breakfast would be over before I could drag my ass out of the rack but when I was going to school at NAS Millington (avionics) and NAS Lakehurst (metem) I usually made time on weekdays. At Lakehurst the chow hall was right next to the blimp hangar where the Hindenburg blew up. I don't know how I survived Millington. I had a Chevy van all fixed up on the inside with captain's chairs, carpeting/paneling, bed in the back, lots of speakers, 8-track tape player (bet you kids never even saw one of those)... anyhow, I used to haul a few buddies to Overton Square in Memphis just about every night where we'd party hard. Here's the hard to believe part - I'd get so drunk most of the time that on the drive back to base (about 15 - 20 miles as I recall) I'd have to drive with one eye closed because if I had both open I'd see double.

Wow - I just checked google maps to see how far it was from NAS Millington to Overton Square. About 20 miles on the button by the route I took. The street names sure brought back some memories. Church Street, Navy Road, Danny Thomas Blvd...

Hmm, I've just realised I have absolutely no idea what to write about. I can do something on the themes:
1) Literary
2) Philosophical
3) Geeky
3a) evolution (over-done)
3b) bioinformatics
3c) anything computer-related
3d) stupidly advanced mathematics

Any preference? anyone?

Right, I've sent along the guest post. It relates to a philosophical point that's been vaguely bugging me for a while, so I actively endorse any efforts to rip my argument a new one.
